FIRST LOOK: Netflix Releases Images and Teaser of Upcoming 'Jupiter's Legacy' Adaptation

Promotion for the highly anticipated Netflix comic book adaptation of 'Jupiter's Legacy' has begun. The streamer has released a series of images from the 8-part series based on the 2013 comic of the same name created by Mark Millar and Frank Quietly.

In a landscape of gritty adaptations of superheroes from independent comics that revel in veering from the mainstream like 'The Boys (Dynamite),' 'The Umbrella Academy (Dark Horse),' and the upcoming 'Invincible (Skybound),'' 'Jupiter's Legacy' (Image) is ready to take the world by storm. The premise involves a generational divide between the legendary first heroes that protected the world and the children they bore who must carry the torch. Unfortunately, as Millar told Entertainment Weekly the kids may not be up to the task, "What if the world's coolest guy, like Superman, married the world's coolest woman, like Wonder Woman, and they had these f---ing awful children who would be like the Kardashians?"

The series stars Josh Duhamel as Sheldon Sampson aka The Utopian who along with some friends gained superpowers in the 1920s and formed the group known as The Union. The series will alternate between the glory days of superheroism to the present where Sheldon and his wife Grace/Lady Liberty played by Leslie Bibb wonder if their legacy will live on with their dysfunctional brood. It's a cross between DC Comics 'Justice League' and HBO's 'Succession.'

This is the first television series created out of the Netflix deal Millar and the streaming giant signed to acquire his Millarworld imprint and adapt those properties. It was Netflix's first acquisition and it gives them an in-house IP farm to cultivate new projects from. After years of working for the Big Two publishers in comics, DC Comics and Marvel, Millar branched out on his own and developed comics that would become not only successful but turned into blockbuster movie franchises, Kick-Ass and Kingsmen

'Jupiter's Legacy' also stars Ben Daniels, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade, and Matt Lanter. Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) is the executive producer and showrunner.

'Jupiter's Legacy' will premiere on Netflix on May 7.
